Becoming a professional interpreter can put you on the path to a rewarding career.  Metaphrasis provides training for those who are interested in becoming a professional interpreter or earning their interpreter certification.  We offer a fun and informational interpreter training program that will help you learn the necessary skills to become a professional interpreter.

How to Become an Interpreter

Interpreter TrainingTranslating and interpreting are more involved than simply translating the words from one language to another.  A skilled interpreter will consider context, cultural nuances, and meaning to accurately convey messages and improve understanding.

Here are a few things you need to know before starting the enrollment process:

  • To be considered as a candidate you must pass our oral and written language proficiency test.  The non-refundable fee to take the exam starts at $97.00 and we require receipt of payment before scheduling the exam.
  • Should your entrance exam scores meet our admission standards, we will notify you of your acceptance into our training program. A $300.00 tuition is due to reserve your spot in the class.
  • The remaining tuition balance is due no later than 2 weeks before the first day of class to maintain enrollment in the course.

Time: 8am to 5pm central time

February 26th and 27th
March 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th

Time: 8am to 5pm central time

The 48-hour interpreter training is full of fun and interactive activities including:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Health Care Interpreting
  • Module 2: Introduction to Roles of the Health Care Interpreting
  • Module 3: Cultures of the Health Care Encounter
  • Module 4: Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Advocacy
  • Module 5: Health Care Interpreting as a Profession
  • Module 6: Role Play Activities, Medical Terminology, On-line Learning, etc.
  • 224-page training manual and 80-page workbook that is yours to keep
