Metaphrasis Language and Cultural Solutions, LLC (Metaphrasis), today announced the addition of a 40 hour Legal Interpreter Training course to its service roster.
The Metaphrasis Legal Interpreter Training is for bilingual professionals who wish to explore the field of legal interpreting. During the 40 hour course, participants will learn the fundamentals of interpreting as a profession, including an overview of basic concepts and hands-on introduction to the three modes of interpreting used in the legal field: simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, and sight translation. Highlights include:

– Legal terminology
– Code of ethics
– Hands-on simultaneous interpreting practice
– Strategies for problem solving
– Scenarios on jury trial and depositions
– Legal and bilingual resources

There is a clear demand for qualified, trained legal interpreters. Metaphrasis Legal Interpreter Training is conducted by Susan Schweigert, MA, CT, CCI, a professional translator and interpreter, specializing in the legal, development and alternative energy fields. She is a graduate of the University of WI-Milwaukee as a Master of Language, Literature and Translation, with a concentration in Spanish to English Translation. Susan is certified by the ATA (American Translators Association) to translate from Spanish into English, and in the State of Wisconsin (member of National Consortium for State Courts) as a certified Spanish court interpreter. Susan is also a board member of MATI (Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters) and chair of its Membership Committee. She is connected to many other individuals and organizations in the field through her memberships in the American Translators Association (ATA), National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), Chicago Area Translators and Interpreters Association (CHICATA) and InterpretAmerica.
