Elizabeth Colón is the President and Founder of Metaphrasis Language & Cultural Solutions, LLC. With Elizabeth at the helm of the Company, Metaphrasis empowers businesses via quality language services, such as interpreting and translation. Elizabeth’s leadership and vision has driven the company’s success, reaching national clients and award recognition within the language services and business industries.
Now known as a leading language services firm both nationally and where the company is headquartered, in the greater-Chicago area, Elizabeth’s vision has led Metaphrasis to secure contracts with distinguished healthcare facilities, as well as various legal, government and marketing agencies, clients within the education sector, retail, work force case management companies and more. With a comprehensive suite of interpreting and translation services, Elizabeth leads Metaphrasis in catering to the language needs of a diverse client base.
With over 25 years of experience in the language services industry, Elizabeth boasts a successful professional history in both non-profit and for-profit environments. Some of her accomplishments include her work as a Director of a large non-profit interpreting agency in Chicago, where she strategically positioned the company to capture a significant market share in the area. Additionally, Elizabeth has been qualified to deliver medical interpreter training via Network Omni Communication and throughout her career has trained well over 500 people, including health professionals in over five states.
Elizabeth is an outspoken advocate of diversity, bridging communication gaps and promoting equal access to quality language services. She is passionate about her involvement in the local business community and currently serves as a Board member of the Norwegian American Hospital Foundation and is actively involved with the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Elizabeth is also passionate about education. She created an interpreter training program where people can turn existing language skills into a meaningful career in medical interpreting. Through this program, there have been well over 500 people who have been able to embark on a new career opportunity some of which were provided a scholarship granted by Metaphrasis covering the full cost of the training program.
Elizabeth also proudly participates in the Malcolm X-City of Chicago College committee to assist in advancing the healthcare curriculum and belongs to the Future Founders organization, where she frequently speaks to students in underserved public schools on a variety of topics that will foster development for future career and life opportunities including presentation skills, entrepreneurship, customer service, business plan writing, etc. Elizabeth volunteers within industry related organizations such as Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters (MATI) and The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCHIC) with the goal of enhancing the language profession field.
Recognized for her business success and service, Elizabeth has been the recipient of the “Mujeres Descatada” award for education from La Raza Newspaper, received an honorable mention as one of Women Entrepreneur’s “Enterprising Women of the Year”, been featured in Hispanic Executive Magazine, and was accepted into the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program. Most recently Elizabeth earned the distinctive Women’s Business Enterprise National Certification (WBENC), was featured by The State of Illinois as a Latina Trail Blazer and recently received the Entreprenurial Excellence award through the Daily Ledger.
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University with a focus on Transformational Organizational Leadership.
